5. Highlight & note — open Study Notes and type your reflections on any passage. Notes are saved automatically.

1. Create a new sermon — click New Sermon in Sermon Studio. Give it a title, a key scripture reference, and an optional theme.
2. Use the Generator — click Sermon Studio Generator to get an AI-assisted sermon outline based on your scripture and theme. Edit any section freely.
3. Build your outline — add an Introduction, Main Points, and Conclusion. Use the text editor to write full manuscript notes under each point.

The most transformative preachers aren't necessarily the most gifted — they're the most disciplined. Here are five habits that will change the depth of your engagement with Scripture.

1. Read before you research. Before opening a commentary or concordance, sit with the text long enough to let it ask you questions. Most preachers reach for tools before they've heard the Word itself.

2. Pray the passage. Take the text's language and turn it into petition. If the passage says "The Lord is my shepherd," let that become your prayer. You'll preach what you've prayed.

3. Write one sentence. Before moving to your outline, write one sentence that captures what you believe God is saying through this passage. This disciplines your thinking and sharpens your message.

4. Compare translations. Reading the same passage in three translations will often unlock meaning that a single version obscures. Scripture Studio's 13-translation reader makes this effortless.

strong>5. Read it again tomorrow. Return to the passage the next day before you've written anything. You'll see something you missed. This second reading is often where sermons are born.

The Psalms are simultaneously the most personal and the most universal book in the Bible. They give language to every human emotion — grief, rage, worship, doubt, gratitude — and they show us that God is big enough to hold all of it.

Identify the Psalm type first. Is it a Psalm of lament? Praise? Wisdom? Ascent? Knowing the genre shapes how you read and teach it. Lament psalms, for example, always move toward trust even when they begin in despair.

Read them aloud. The Psalms were written to be sung. Reading them aloud — even in private — recovers their rhythm and emotional weight in a way silent reading cannot.

Let them teach your congregation to pray. One of the most powerful things you can do is assign a Psalm a week to your congregation and let them pray through it. Over time, you'll notice the language of the Psalms appearing in their own prayers.

How it works: Open Commentaries, load any passage using the passage selector, and you'll see two translation dropdowns — Version A and Version B — above two scrollable panels. Each panel loads the live Bible text for that translation. Both fetch simultaneously so you're never waiting.

Why it matters: Translation comparison is one of the most powerful tools in exegesis, and it's been historically buried behind expensive software or clunky tab-switching. Now it's right next to the commentary, so you can read what Bishop Clark, Matthew Henry, or Jamieson says about a passage while simultaneously seeing how different translators rendered it.

One of the quietest but most powerful things a pastor can do for their congregation is give them a shared reading plan. When your people are all in the same passage, something remarkable happens to the culture of your church.

Shared language emerges. When your congregation is all reading the same passage, the conversations that happen in the lobby, in small groups, and on social media begin to use the same vocabulary. The Word becomes communal.

Accountability becomes natural. You don't have to engineer accountability when people are all on the same journey. The question "where are you in the plan?" becomes a natural part of church life.

Your preaching is amplified. When your congregation has been in a passage all week before you preach it Sunday, they arrive prepared. They've wrestled with the text. Your sermon answers questions they've already been asking.
